My father used to prepare breakfast for all us, when we children went to school. We used to eat different things and first thing, he would bring my mom coffee in bed. He still does it, every morning he makes coffee and brings it to her, then he prepares her breakfast. In summer, he would also do fresh lemon “granita” (photo below). The children have all left home but he continues with our old family pattern. Now, after mom‘s breakfast, he goes to the nursery home where his mother-in-law lives. She can‘t eat by herself anymore, years ago she just stopped. He goes there and he feeds her, it can take up to one hour for tea and biscuits. After he is done with her, he goes to have coffee with his own mother, she waits with the moka pot on the stove, ready to go. Eventually he leaves for the countryside, he is a very solitary man.

È a tratti inquietante e a tratti affascinante, di sicuro mi ingoia senza lasciarmi scelta alcuna, riesco a malapena a muovermi.

I am here ready to absorb everything I can, folding my washing, waiting for the aubergines to release bitterness into salty water. I am extremely calm, I must have slept too long. I couldn‘t wake up, in and out from the oneiric world. I long to stay in the parallel dimension, I can have a “physical” contact with the dream or its theme. At times it scares me, but also fascinates me, it surely swallows me, leaving me no choice. The floor is slippery, I wore latex last night, I took it off without washing it or washing me. One day or another, I will smash my head. I woke up with a cut on the upper lip, if I didn‘t fall, I must have been run over. As a musician of an alternative punk rock band, I have always had a clear idea of any socio-political definition about my own persona. Being a step forward the border of definitions, has been part of my work and my own personal path. I have grown as part of a group of friends and artists that didn‘t necessarily needed to define themselves, if not through their work. I have been lucky, at times I think all of it that could make us more strong and free, would just turn into a cage made of parties, sex positiveness, drugs, pure dispersion. It looks like the queerness that put us together, has labeled us now. I understand it is necessary to create “safe spaces”, if you wanna enjoy a certain range of freedom, I just fear what makes you feel stronger, may at times keep you under lock and key.

I don‘t really go to parties often anymore. I got a bit tired of the “Berlin coolness”, there is nothing more uncool than coolness itself. Mine could just be a cold and snob point of view. The women in my family used to dress in black, in a very simple way, their silence was a pedestal made of concrete. Discretion was a value and a stance, you must speak in a soft voice, sit in half-light, watch from a distance. I remember once, I went to visit my grandparents at lunchtime in August. I had to leave for Rome after a few hours, I wanted to say goodbye. I was standing next to them while they were eating what their care-taker had cooked for them. My granddad was already sick, yet always elegant. He wouldn‘t have been able to walk fifty meters, but he kept eating with a knife and fork, as his rigorous manners have instructed. My grandparents never really ate much. “To stuff yourself” is not elegant. As my granddad was almost done with his meal, the care-taker insisted he should have more. I think I wouldn‘t even have asked him myself! I and my grandad, we had a similar character, we are kind of “twitchy”. In that moment, he gave me a look how to say “how can you allow this!”. I told the woman he has had enough, his gesture showed intimacy and trust towards me. After lunch grandma was sitting in the kitchen folding napkins, they used fabric ones, as I in my everyday life use damask linen ones. My granddad was sitting in the entrance hall, instead. They were both humming classic music tunes on their own. Every time I said goodbye before leaving, grandma would say that would have been our last goodbye, while grandad never did. That year it was different, he was melancholic as I said goodbye, I kissed him but I needed to run out. It was our last goodbye.

Even though I am not active part “of the party scene”, I enjoyed going to The Brvtalist party, good vibes and good music choices. On their Youtube channel, among their featured videos, I also found Halv Drøm, an Australian guy that I met at Urban Spree many years ago, as I just moved to Berlin. Last month I went to one of his “FLEISCH” parties.

The night life is like huge living room, I love living rooms. If I ever had the chance to have a huge apartment, I would want to have as many living rooms as possible. I can tell I would use them all. The biggest among these rooms is the street. On the way to the party I met two guys, one of them said something about me, I turned around, I walked towards them asking what was their problem. They mumbled all was fine, but as I left them again, I heard one saying he would have in fact “wanted to do me”. At that point I suggested to him, he should fuck his friend. This one didn‘t react good, he hurried in my direction and tried to push me with his knee. He was shorter than me, keeping the knee high, I assume gave him more strength. I found the whole scene pretty ridiculous. At that point his friend came to pull this other guy away from me. I am sorry these people live such a sad life.

I stopped doing everything at once, there is no rush, I am heading to no specific destination. Things must be done, one at a time, firmly though.
